  • Hello there! I am Paula Kathlyn and you have found me in one of my favorite places...my blog! I'm a Southern gal, a wife, and a Mama of two. If I could sum up my blog in just a few words they would be, "Making the every day a little more fun!"
My blog is home ec online, but don't let the home ec part fool ya. We aren't talking about your grandma's Home Ec here!
My goal is to make crafting, cooking, and homemaking fabulous, fun, and as easy as possible.
Why? Because life is too short to be boring :)

Southern Sweet Tea

If you are like me, you grew up drinking sweet tea, and you probably have known how to make it for years!  I remember being in middle school and making a big pitcher of sweet tea for supper.

But, if you didn’t grow up on sweet tea…or maybe you grew up on a store bought jug from the grocery store (ahhhh!!!), so this “recipe” is for you.

It’s how my family has been making tea for as long as I can remember, and I think it is the best way!

Start out with a large, microwave safe container.  I am using a big ol’ Mason jar.

Luzianne tea is my favorite brand for sweet iced tea.  I buy the family sized bags and I use two of them for a 2 quart pitcher size.

Put your tea bags in your jar, then fill to the top with water.

Stick it in the microwave until it comes to a full boil (about 2-3 minutes).

When you pull it out, it will look like this.  I like to let it steep for about 5-10 minutes.

This lets the tea “roux” get nice and strong.

Next you will need to measure out about a cup of sugar.

Pour into your pitcher.

Now, pour your hot jar of tea over the sugar.  This will allow the sugar to dissolve quickly.

After your sugar is completely dissolved, fill your pitcher the rest of the way with cool water and stir well!

Pour over ice, and enjoy!

A little sprig of mint or a slice of lemon is an excellent garnish:)

I would love to know, do you already make your own sweet tea?  Do you buy it pre-made?  Or have you never made it before?

Now I really need a big glass of sweet tea!

Oh Girl…..you KNOW we live on sweet tea here at this house. I have NO idea really how many pitchers I make each day. And I do it the exact same way as you described. ;-) And I already have a tall glass with lemon sitting here right beside me.

I can honestly say I’ve never made sweet tea that way! I either make it on the stove or using a tea maker, the lazy Southern girl’s best friend. LOL! ;-)

I have never actually made sweet tea before… chalk it up to me being Canadian lol. But I LOVE having it (especially down in Georgia when I visit my sister). I’m totally going to make some this week now! Thanks for the tutorial :)

Saint Patrick’s Day and a Potty

After finding some inspiration on Pinterest, this is what Caleb found in his bathroom this morning:

And a little video to go with it…

I’ll admit, he was a little freaked out!

No green beer here, but a green potty? Check!;)

How to Use Coconut Oil as Hair Conditioner

I have been reading and seeing so many things about coconut oil.

In fact, I’d venture to say that coconut oil is the latest obsession by health and beauty guru’s and I will be honest, I am on board that band wagon after my most recent experience with it!

I started by finding a big container of Coconut Oil at my local grocery store (Publix).  They had 3 different kinds.  This one was the cheapest,  and since they all had the same active ingredient of “Coconut Oil”, I chose the cheapest!

This consistency may throw you off at first.  It is in solid form but it easily melts.

All I did was scoop some out, rub it in the palm of my hands until it became liquid, then I rubbed it all over the ends of my hair.

I started about halfway down the length of of my hair and applied liberally.

I let it soak in for about 5-10 minutes, then I jumped in the shower and shampooed and conditioned my hair like normal.

The first thing I noticed was how easy it was to comb through my damp hair.

After I finished blow drying, my hair felt soft but not limp.  It also just felt healthier and smoother and well conditioned.

It was a subtle difference, but I had good enough results that I will be doing this at least once a week!

The best part is that you can also cook with it!  I hear the health benefits are pretty great.

I’m a coconut oil advocate from here on out:)

Can I also just give you a quick recap of my day?

It started with my 11 month old, waking up at 4am with a fever.  She was miserable and I couldn’t get her back to sleep.  I also had a dentist appointment planned for Caleb and I.  So, after getting Lorelei to sleep, I coaxed my husband into going in late to work so Caleb and I could still make our appointment.

After our appointment, I had about 20 minutes until I hopped back in the car to take Lorelei to the doctor.  Turns out she has croup and an ear infection…bummer.  No wonder she was so miserable!!!

By the time we finally got home, it was nap time (praise the Lord!).

We all got a nap in and now I am looking around wondering who is going to make dinner and fold my laundry.

Any takers?

On top of that, our Macbook has been out of commission.  I’m hoping it makes it back to my arms, fully functional, by this weekend.  I am trying to blog on a teeny PC…it’s one of those little notebooks that were so popular before the ipad made its big debut.  It’s old, so I am just happy that it even works, but boy will I be glad to have my Mac back!!!  So, please forgive the bad quality of the photo’s.  I’m working with what I got;)

All that being said, I splurged on some pretty fingernail polish today.

I NEVER paint my nails, but this color was screaming my name, or maybe that was Lorelei?

I took the time to paint them and I love it.  Now, here’s to hoping I can grow them out a little:)

Have you had one of those days like I have?  Share away!

This tired Mama will totally relate with ya.
