If you are like me, you grew up drinking sweet tea, and you probably have known how to make it for years! I remember being in middle school and making a big pitcher of sweet tea for supper.
But, if you didn’t grow up on sweet tea…or maybe you grew up on a store bought jug from the grocery store (ahhhh!!!), so this “recipe” is for you.
It’s how my family has been making tea for as long as I can remember, and I think it is the best way!
Start out with a large, microwave safe container. I am using a big ol’ Mason jar.
Luzianne tea is my favorite brand for sweet iced tea. I buy the family sized bags and I use two of them for a 2 quart pitcher size.
Put your tea bags in your jar, then fill to the top with water.
Stick it in the microwave until it comes to a full boil (about 2-3 minutes).
When you pull it out, it will look like this. I like to let it steep for about 5-10 minutes.
This lets the tea “roux” get nice and strong.
Next you will need to measure out about a cup of sugar.
Pour into your pitcher.
Now, pour your hot jar of tea over the sugar. This will allow the sugar to dissolve quickly.
After your sugar is completely dissolved, fill your pitcher the rest of the way with cool water and stir well!
Pour over ice, and enjoy!
A little sprig of mint or a slice of lemon is an excellent garnish![]()
I would love to know, do you already make your own sweet tea? Do you buy it pre-made? Or have you never made it before?
Now I really need a big glass of sweet tea!

Oh Girl…..you KNOW we live on sweet tea here at this house. I have NO idea really how many pitchers I make each day. And I do it the exact same way as you described.
And I already have a tall glass with lemon sitting here right beside me.
I can honestly say I’ve never made sweet tea that way! I either make it on the stove or using a tea maker, the lazy Southern girl’s best friend. LOL!
I have never actually made sweet tea before… chalk it up to me being Canadian lol. But I LOVE having it (especially down in Georgia when I visit my sister). I’m totally going to make some this week now! Thanks for the tutorial
